HOW WE USE COOKIES

On all of our sites, we use Google Analytics to measure how the sites are performing. Essentially, this gives us information about what things are popular, how people move through the site, how long they spend on the site and what they do while they’re here.

For this to work, the Analytics system writes a small file (this is what a ‘Cookie’ is) onto your device which simply identifies that you’re looking at the site. It doesn’t tell us who you are, or any personal details. Location is logged, but only at the level of a particular town, not more detailed than that.

Analytics also tells us what browsers are being used to look at the site, and the screen resolutions being used. This information is important so that we can plan the path of future updates and improvements to the sites.

If you’ve logged in to a site, it is possible that the data tracked via Analytics could be linked to you as a specific user.

Other functions that use cookies include automatically logging you into a site when you’ve clicked a ‘remember me’ checkbox, and sites where content has to be placed behind an ‘age gate’ (where you have to be of a certain age to view the content) are required to remember the date of birth entered.

It’s possible to block cookies being set on your device by changing your browser’s privacy settings. You can find out more information about how to do this by clicking here. Switching them off, though, may cause some of the above functions to no longer work.

If you’d like to find out more about our approach to online privacy, then please read our full Privacy Policy.
